The complete Zune Review
by GermanPickle on Aug.05, 2008, under Technology
I wanted to take a little bit of a time out. Summer is upon us, and this was a prime opportunity to take my Zune listen to it and play with it, so that I can provide you with the best review possible.
A little background. Before I got the Zune, I used a Sony NWZ-A816 media player and my Palm TX to play music and video.
As you know from my last post, I was very impressed by Zune when it arrived. Three weeks have now passed and I can comfortably say that I’ve given this Zune a fair chance to impress me. And has it? (continue reading…)
The Zune Has Arrived…. First Impressions.
by GermanPickle on Jul.15, 2008, under Technology
When I arrived at the office this morning, a brown box was waiting for me.
Before I powered up the PC; before I checked my voicemail and before I grabbed my morning Java, I had to open it…
It was my Microsoft Zune. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, so this post is my First Impression only.
dSLR Photography Filter This
by GermanPickle on Jun.12, 2008, under Cars, Photos, Technology
More and more people I know are taking the jump from point and Shoot to dSLR. I believe that dSLR is probably more common now than 35mm SLR was when I was a teenager, although this could be because the people I know have more disposable income now than when I was in my late teens.
Although I don’t consider myself a great photographer, I do know a little about photography, and I wanted to dispense some of this knowledge for those wanting to move to shooting with a dSLR. Afterall…. Wayne Gretzky’s coach wasn’t a hockey super star. (continue reading…)

How’s your Doc Doing?
by GermanPickle on Mar.03, 2008, under General Topics, TheNet
The internet is a fountain of information. We can use it to get the facts straight on all kinds of confusing or mysterious topics. You can get reviews on the latest electronic, hints to solving the latest video game, or find tips for alsmost any project under the sun. People will rate almost everything, but…
have you ever asked yourself “How good is my doctor?” “What do other patients think of Dr. ______?”
Well, guess no more, the website http://www.ratemds.com is the place to go. A large database of Doctors in USA, Canada, UK, and Australia, this site doesn’t require registration to view or rate doctors, however it will log your IP address.
Doctors are rated on a scale of 1-5 in four categories. 1. Staff 2.Punctuality 3. Helpful 4. knowledgeable. Comments are also available for each rating.
So, next time you’re referred to another doctor, check his/her ratings to see how others rate the “Doc.”

I’m hoping to get a feed for the comments also, as they’ve proven to be a popular place for people to hang out. Like this everyone can see new comments by looking at the RSS feed. With a little luck I’ll have that working soon.
Porsche Cayenne Hybrid, One Hundred Plus Years in the Making.
by admin on Dec.02, 2007, under Automotive, Cars, Environment, Science, Technology
I wrote this article about a month ago for the newsletter that a car club I belong to publishes. My article was bumped by a similar official press release sent by PCNA (Porsche Cars North America.)
I figured I’d post the article on my blog instead.
Since 2005 there’s been talk about Porsche building a gasoline-electric version of the
How much power does that use anyway?

Leave the computer running, or shut it down in the evening; it’s a debate many can’t seem to agree on. Over the years I’ve changed my standpoint on the subject more than once. However, I think I now have a solid argument for shutting down your computer when it’s not in use.
My co-worker, recently loaned me an energy monitor-logger. This device will log the electrical usage of a circuit. Whether it be one item or multiple items on a circuit, no matter. The monitor stores it’s readings into internal memory. It then estimates a monthly electrical cost for the use of the circuit based on the readings in memory. The unit connects to the computer using USB, and the data can be downloaded from the device to analyse the usage of the circuit. So what does a computer use on electricity? (continue reading…)

Don’t Support these Guys.
by admin on Mar.23, 2007, under Computers, Personal, Technology, TheNet
Don’t support these guys. Why? Simple. I’ve taken a new approach. I hate Spam and in your face advertising. A German Singer/Songwriter named Reinhard Mey said it very well when referring to wathcing a movie that was being interrupted by commercials. “I pay attention to those companies that advertise, and then I don’t buy any of their products. You see, I tell myself, I can’t buy the coffee in the morning from the company that steals my time in the evening.”
So with this very reasoning in mind I’ve decided to have the same approach. These Gentlemen spammed me today. So they stole my time, and internet bandwidth in attempt to sell me a service I don’t want, nor need. Since there’s little I despise more than spam; I urge you to use a competitor that doesn’t solicit via spam when you purchase or sell your next home.
